Alaska Airlines Flights Grounded Across the US Due to IT Outage

The carrier halted operations due to technical issue

Alaska Airlines grounded flights at airports nationwide on the day due to a technical issue.

The airline announced that it was "facing an IT outage impacting operations" and issued "an operational pause."

The airline did not disclose the duration the disruption would continue or how many flights were affected. It stated it was "actively restoring our services" after the outage.

The ground stop also impacted the regional carrier, which is a subsidiary of the parent company, according to an notice by the aviation authority.

The airline, part of The airline group based in the Pacific Northwest, mainly serves on the western seaboard of the United States. It services numerous locations worldwide, including 37 states and dozens of nations, according to its online platform.

Previously, the carrier joined forces with Hawaiian Airlines, which was unaffected by Thursday's ground stop.

It is the second IT outage impacting the airline this year. In July, an outage halted flights for about three hours.

Alaska Airlines did not provide a comment on Thursday to media inquiries.

Air transportation in the US has been disrupted in recent weeks due to the US government shutdown that started recently. Lack of flight controllers showing up for work has caused delays at multiple locations.
